This really doesn't seem like very many features for a two disc release..but I suppose I've seen that before. I wonder if P.T.A. will ever get a much deserved Criterion release for one of his films...

I can honestly say that I don't care for either cover art, a simple design with just the title and no picture probably would've been fine, but whatever. What seriously concerns me is the idiotic cardboard packaging. We're paying the same price and don't even get a solid case. I don't usually mind unique packaging designs but honestly, for something that's going on a shelf or somewhere in a collection, it would be nice to have it a little more solid so it fits. Aside from the graphics, I could have made something like this. I am guessing that it is some environmental statement to do with the subject matter of the film, but I would expect to be paying less for this kind of packaging.

I made the previous comment after just seeing the packaging in the store, so after purchasing a copy I thought I'd better add some other thoughts for the sake of conversation. I spent a couple dollars more for the two disk package for two reasons. The first is that the packaging is just far too flimsy in the single disk, but even in the special edition the way that the disks are slid into place with no protection just begs for them to be scratched even when properly cared for. Aside from that the design is attractive enough, and although there is no chapter listing, the quote from the book "Oil!" is an interesting addition. The second reason for the purchase is that the special features, while limited, are interesting enough for a single viewing, but that may turn others off. Those two factors combined are worth spending a little more for the collector's edition.

I have no problem with there not being any animation in the menu, but 8 chapter selections for a film of over 150 minutes is pushing it at best. I'm sure there is an explanation for it, and I would be curious to find out why.

That's my two cents, probably a little more worthwhile than my previous post, my apologies if it was nothing but a rant. For others who have bought either edition, what are your thoughts?
