Gee - you think they might actually release the coherent versions of the films? Nah, that would be too risky for the Brothers - it would completely demystify them.

;)

Of course, I'm joking...

There are no coherent versions. :.( :.( :.(

i dont get the limited edition though. how would you put that on your shelf? it looks pretty cool, with the titles on the plastic box, but its so oddly shaped, you would have to put it somewhere else from the rest of your collection

So there was a REASON why original DVD releases were so lousy - this way, many of us get to pay TWICE!

So I take it the Reloaded Revisted and Revolutions Revisted are the bonus disks that we've all already got?

Roots of the Matrix looks cool. 8)

Plus we finally get commentaries (sort of?)

no, i think reloaded and revolutions revisited are new documentaries like the first "revisited". thats why i'm keeping my original releases of the trilogy, different special features.

I have already commented on these films. I like them all, love the box set. But I have noticed something in "Reloaded" which I have never mentioned and would like to know your thoughts. It is nothing philisophical or trivial. During the Architect conversation, right when he says something about "the varying grotesqueries of human nature", it shows George Bush Sr. and Jr. on the screens rather largely. Was this done on purpose? I am not interested in politics, I'm just wondering...

It's fairly obvious that it's a political statement from the filmmakers.

Eddie, lets not forget how brilliant the machines are if they never came to the realization that building giant solar towers would saved them a lot of effort and time.

This box set is the best DVD set I own, by far. I loved all 3 films (With Revolutions being my favorite) and there are so many extras here I doubt that I'll take the time to watch them all. I still haven't figured out why people don't like Revolutions, but I really don't care. I think it was the best of the 3.

Picture quality and sound quality is top notch for all 3 films and there are some really good documentaries to be found as well.

*SPOILER ALERT for THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS (somewhat)*
Perhaps the single most effective scene in any of these films that almost illicited a tear from my left eye was the scene in which Trinity dies, and she says the lines "But you brought me back... to say the things, that really mattered." That just hit me, plus the really good theme in the background music was very nice ending for Trinity. Albeit it was a patheticaly worthless, pointless and cheap death (who approved these scripts?). It's also a shame that Keanu Reeves could muster nothing more than a whimper in his robotic performance as she dies. Who are the machines in these movies? Agent Smith was more human for pity's sake!

So... you're saying the Machines were Republicans?;)

shocked.. a 7 for extras? for this gigantic set?

most other web reviewers give this set a near perfect for extras, and most ranked it on the top of the year list.

Granted, it's a case of quantity over quality for you.
but still... it's a lot of extras..

a few downsides to this set are the reusing of the Matrix Revisted and Animatrix discs, and the lack of participation of the director and writers.

Still.. Eddie doesn't like this series very much, so that effects the enjoyment of extras too.

Viter,

Considering that I'll never ever watch the extras again, they can't possibly be worth a 10. As much as I dis-liked most of "LOTR 2" and "LOTR 3", I've watched their extras repeatedly. The same goes for "Pearl Harbor"--the extras are worth my time even if the movie isn't.

Viter,

I didn't listen to the commentaries in their entirety, I didn't watch all of the fluffy stuff like the trailers, and I didn't listen to all of the music on the "The Matrix Revisited" disc, but that's about it.

Depression,

These movies are filled with obvious problems, mistakes, inconsistencies, and other idiocies. I simply listed the ones that came to my mind while I was writing the review, though I'm sure that we could all have a field day listing what went wrong.

eddie,

have you seen any other reviews for Ultimate Matrix Collection?

one reviewer who absolutely love extras is Colin Jacobson on dvdmg.com. He give detailed descriptions of all the extras, and even goes so far as listing most of the names in the extras. ever read his reviews?

One movie fan's coaster is another fan's most-prized DVD collection, Viter. Mr. Feng was just stating his opinion of the extras. After all, he even posted here saying that he rated them based on whether or not he would watch them again. Since he won't, he rated them low. But, that is just his opinion.

"Since I feel that the movies mis-interpreted or ill-advisedly used difficult-to-grasp concepts"

Tell me, how does one "mis-interpret" interpretations on philosophy, I thought the whole idea of philosphy was that it was the various interpretations and beliefs we held towards a certain subject matter. Secondly, how else are you supposed to show that the characters possess the ability to bend the very fabric of time and space whilst combating enemies if they cannot use wires. Honestly, I think it's just low and nitpicking to criticize a unique way of presenting subject matter. As much as people doing the "real thing" sans wires is great and all, it doesn't really allow dynamic camera movement or stunning cinematography as witnessed in the Matrix Trilogy. And while they may not hit the ball every swing, they certainly shouldn't be assualted for offering their views on a particular subject matter. That's almost like saying "Judaism is stupid and Christianity is the truth becuase we Christians read the scriptures and unlike those Jews... we got it right, and we taught it right!" Come on!

Onijay,

It is possible for people to mis-understand philosophical concepts. For example, when you ask, "Have you heard of Nietzsche?", a lot of people will respond with, "Didn't he say 'God is dead'?" They think that Nietsche was some sort of anti-religion activist when in fact Nietzsche was talking about how humans killed the idea of God.

Likewise, a lot of people think that America is a democracy when in fact it is a republic.

Also, the characters in these movies, while inside The Matrix, are not bending time/space--they are simply doing things willy-nilly inside a computer mainframe. Later, Neo is able to control machines in the real world, but this simply makes him a superbeing rather than a human who pushes himself to the limits.

The very fact that it is possible to do anything with computers when making a movie is deplorable--there is no skill involved that requires years of dedication and patience (i.e. learning a martial art) since all you have to do is get a pudgy computer geek to punch a few commands into his control panel. Remember the adage "Just because you can doesn't mean you should"?

I'm sorry, what does America's government have to do with philosophy and the matrix? Oh... gotcha ;)

Strange that you say no skill is involved in computer images, didn't Final Fantasy take over 4 years to complete, and didn't you give it a 10? Surely you must have faulted the film for showing no dedication or patience...

Political science is a branch of philosophy. I was using an example to illustrate how people mis-understand philosophical concepts.

The computer effects in the "Matrix" movies were meant to approximate "live-action" but made the actors look like buffoons--both because the computer-generated actors looked stupid and because the actors were stupid enough to agree to be involved with the series. "Final Fantasy" used computer animation to achieve photorealism while relating a story and powerful ideas about humanity's relationship with nature.

To the Reviewer of this Title:

I would like to know where exactly do you see evidence of print flaws in the Matrix and the Matrix Reloaded DVDs. I have seen the titles repeatedly and I haven't seen one. Plus these are brand-new HD transfers. All other DVD Review sites say there aren't any scratches or hairs and that the picture is as pristine as it can be.

I would like to hear your comment on this issue!

Thanks. 8)
