Once again, Universal Home Video has disrespected the best movie ever made, VERTIGO, by not releasing it on blu-ray disc.

To be fair, we don't have Hitchcock's "Rebecca," "Rear Window," "North by Northwest," "Psycho," or "The Birds" among others of his classics on Blu-ray, either. Perhaps we should be patient.

VERTIGO is the best movie ever made (the only Hitchcock title in the AFI top ten) and Universal has treated it poorly all along. It has never even been released in anamorphic widescreen DVD. Its 50th anniversary is not being acknowledged. VERTIGO should be released on Blu-ray now.

also, the new artwork is truly awful. Universal, stick to vintage artwork if this is all you can come up with.

Hitchcock's movies are truly classics to me. They way he shot them is amazing.
I think that studio's are reluctant to release old big catalog titles on Blu-ray just yet. Since the vast majority of Blu-ray players are Playstation 3 gaming consoles that like new and more action oriented content. Now, I know that there a people (including myself) who have a PS3 and enjoy older movies as well but the majority doesn't seem to appreciate these catalog releases.

I agree, Henning.
If these titles were released on BD, I would snatch them up in a heartbeat!

I must agree with JoeClinton that Vertigo is a visual masterpiece, and Hitchcock's finest, and most haunting film. I disagree however with Joe over the artwork on this latest edition DVD. Its is far superior to the cover of the "{collectors) edition of the film which featured Kim Novack falling off the bell tower. James Stewart was able to express so many emotions with just the look in his eyes, and this new cover captures some of that magic.
