while everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion (as am i) i would like to draw attention to how this reviewer seems to compare the rise of hitler in germany to the bush administration. it is done quite well without actually naming bush. what made me realize this is how the word communists was changed to terrorists to get this reviewers political views across.
to the reviewer.....save it man. dvd websites should not be a forum for liberal or conservative views. if you want to write an op-ed piece try out for the NY TIMES. they seem like your crowd.
in todays world politics are oversaturatiing our news and coming to this dvd site is an escape from it. lets just stick to the discs.

As philosopher, poet, and critic George Santayana wrote, "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it."
It's sad, really, because I heard so many times from high school students how stupid they thought it was to study history. It was a "waste of time" for so many of them. Which is why, of course, wars and corruption never stop. People either forget their history or were too lazy (or too overly sensitive) to ever learn it in the first place.
At least movies and video are an easy, non-threatening means of learning history, and, one hopes, applying that history to today's events.
To separate history from the present, to pretend there is no connection, is ignorance (or laziness) at its worst.
Ncflex, if you didn't want to know about world politics and you only wanted an "escape from it," why would you read a review about "The World at War"?

What an awful attitude to have, ncflex. Movies are not made in vacuums, and movies are not viewed in vacuums. Whatever "value" any art has depends on its relationship with the world--how it comments on life, how life respondes to it, etc.
Besides, what do you mean by declaring that politics is oversaturing the news? All life is political, from government functions to whether or not a person gets a promotion.

your comment seems to imply that there is, in fact, a connection between nazi germany and todays administration.
i'm just wondering where the death camps are?
my escape from world politics comment stems from just wanting to know what a reviewer thinks of the quality of the disc. audio, visual etc.
i already own the set and as ususal i read as many reviews as i can. like i said earlier i don't need an op-ed piece on how this reviewer thinks we are like nazi germany...that has nothing to do with this set.
i agree that history is very important. i also agree that you shouldn't seperate history from the present as the lessons learned are hard ones that we do not want to relive. i can't disagree enough that we are not like nazi germany. i think most people would disagree with that sentiment...except for maybe michael moore and the far left.
