Synopsis

The gripping, HBO Films dramatic thriller PU-239 tells the story of Timofey (Paddy Considine, "The Bourne Ultimatum"), a nuclear-power planet worker in 1995 post-Soviet Russia. Exposed to a deadly dose of radiation while trying to avert a plant disaster, Timofey learns that authorities lied about the extent of his exposure, and that he has only a few days to live. Desperate to provide security for his wife (Radha Mitchell, "Finding Neverland") and son, Timofey steals a small amount of Pu-239-weapons-grade plutonium-and heads to Moscow with a vial strapped to his body to attempt a quick sale. Amid the "new Russia criminal underground, Timofey races against the clock, grasping his only hope for his family's future-one of the world's most dangerous substances.
