Synopsis
“Stunning! The film must be seen.” -Christopher Dickey, Newsweek“An extremely powerful experience.” -Jeffrey Lyons, NBC/Reel Talk
The War on Terror will be Photographed... the Scandal was a Cover-up.
Errol Morris examines the incidents of abuse and torture of suspected terrorists at the hands of U.S. forces at the Abu Ghraib prison. His award-winning documentary takes you behind the bars of the 21st century’s most infamous prison, and the acts that forced a president to apologize to the world.
Witness one of the worst debacles in American military history. Enter Abu Ghraib. You’ve seen the photographs on the nightly news: the naked prisoners, the pyramid of degraded captives, and the infamous thumbs-up grin of the young female corporal standing guard over them all. Now, come inside and see the true story of the men and women who crossed the thin line between interrogation and torture.
Director Errol Morris describes Standard Operating Procedure as an investigation to discover what actually happened “outside the frame” of the infamous Abu Ghraib photographs. To that end, Errol Morris compiled over a million-and-a-half words of transcript, over thirty interviews, tens of thousands of pages of documents, and over a thousand photographs. His conclusion was that “the Abu Ghraib photos serve as both an expose and a coverup.”
(Rated R - for disturbing images and content involving torture and graphic nudity, and for language).
