Synopsis
This Sundance Award winner and revolutionary tour-de-force tells the astonishing story of one woman who stood up for her people and helped wage a rebellion in the wake of seemingly unconquerable oppression. Digitally remastered to commemorate its 20th Anniversary, filmmakers Pamela Yates and Newton Thomas Sigel risked their lives to capture live footage of the heated battle between a heavily armed Guatemalan Military and a nearly defenseless Mayan Population. Filmed with a surprisingly robust passion and exhilarating flair, the film is firmly anchored by the firsthand accounts of Rigoberta Menchu, a Quiche Indian woman who won the Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian efforts.
