Yes, prices are falling fast on both sides. 3.5 months ago a PS3 cost $599 now $399.

However, that is sadly the risk when you enjoy consumer electronics.

That's too true Henning. It's just that I bought mine in December. But by then Warner hadn't switched and I didn't have a worry in the world.

:: keeps eyeballing that 499 PS3 ::

Prices normally fall as production methods improve and economies of scale are realized. But one also has to realize that 6 movies @ $20 sale price each = $120. $120 - $80 (for player) = $40 free. Obviously other factors are at work here. It's CE history when manufacturers actually pay you $40 for taking their products off their hands.

However... the six free movies are the one free movie with the player and the 5 free movies deal.

either way... From what I understand Microsoft only made one, large batch of HD-DVD Add-ons... Originally the movie and Remote were "Limited Time Only" Deals. Well they've been sitting on the stock for... 2 years?

Anyway... don't quote me on that... For all I know I could have been fed misinformation.

In retrospect however, My deal was better.... I got 9 Free movies. 4 out of the box and 5 from Tosh/Microsoft. I hit up the "Buy the HD-DVD Add on, and get the Bourne Trilogy for free!" Offer in December. Great deal.

EDIT:

WHOA! It looks like the price reverted back to 179.99...

Oh darn. This works connected to a PC too right? This would have been a cheap way to get an HD DVD player in my computer upstairs.

It can so long as you download the proper drivers. Unfortunately the drivers wouldn't work on my PC

However it has been done.

The link shows the price to be $179 looks like someone has given out bogus info. Lame.

The reason is they sold out.

However, the drive will soon be available for $129.99.

MS lowers the SRP.
