Blu-ray owners will soon be able to enjoy "Batman Begins" in high def.
Long an HD DVD-only title because of picture-in-picture features, the movie will have a July 8 release on Blu-ray from Warner Bros, just in time for the sequel, "The Dark Knight," that will hit theaters on July 18.
"Batman Begins" will arrive in two versions: A single disc version priced at $28.99 and a limited gift set with a "Batman Begins" motion-art lenticular, exclusive photos, script pages, storyboards, five collectible "Batman Begins" postcards, and $7.50 in movie cash toward a "Dark Knight" ticket. The gift set will be priced at $49.99.
Special features are not known at the time, but they are expected to be the same as were found on the HD DVD release.
Press Release:
Burbank, Calif., March 17, 2008 – Batman Begins catapults into the high definition age on July 8th with the Blu-ray™ Hi-Definition release from Warner Home Video. "Batman Begins" has already been well received in high definition as the HD DVD release is the top catalog HD seller.
Three new DVD editions -- two on Blu-ray™ Hi-Definition and one in Standard Definition -- will be released prior to the July 18th nationwide theatrical release of Warner Bros. Pictures´ The Dark Knight.
Leading the Blu-ray™ Hi-Def pack is the Batman Begins Limited Edition Gift Set ($49.99 SRP). The single disc Blu-ray™ Hi-Def Gift Set also includes The Dark Knight Prologue (the first six minutes of the film), a Batman Begins motion art lenticular, a 32-page booklet including an all-new DC Comics comic book adaptation of The Dark Knight prologue, exclusive photos, script pages and story boards. This Gift Set will also include five Batman Begins collectible postcards with never-before printed key art from the theatrical release, as well as $7.50 "movie cash" towards the purchase of an adult ticket to see The Dark Knight in theatres.
A single disc Blu-ray™ Hi-Def version ($28.99 SRP) of Batman Begins will also be available. This also features The Dark Knight prologue.
Batman Begins Limited Edition Gift Set will also be available in a 2-Disc Standard Definition ($39.92 SRP) version. This Gift Set will include a 128MB Batman branded flash drive, five Batman Begins collectible postcards with never-before printed key art from the theatrical release, as well as $7.50 "movie cash" towards the purchase of an adult ticket to see The Dark Knight in theatres.
When director Christopher Nolan set out to re-imagine the Batman franchise with the origin story in 2005, Batman Begins enjoyed phenomenal critical and box office success with a worldwide gross of $372MM.

And you get a $7.50 ticket to see the new Dark Knight film when you buy it on Blu ray. The sad thing is that I was'nt a huge Batman Begins fan, the movie was ok but it's not a must have too me.

kucoloco... the news link seems to indicate that the movie ticket to the Dark Knight is included in the regular Blu-ray edition too, not just the $49.95 gift set.
[hope so anyway for those interested - I own the HD-DVD edition]

Hmmm...I love how no one screams about consumers choice in this regard, yet it's the first card brought out when referencing HD DVD pulling out. Amazing.
I'm there for the gift set. I'm a shameless superhero whore. I know.

Glad I bought the HD-DVD version. Paid a whopping $14.30 for it with tax. I could care less about all of the other junk that they are stuffing into the Blu-Ray special release.

The same Special Feature on the HD DVD disk, but with the Blu-Ray one you won't be able to access them. Or some of them might not work at all!
