During this years Super Bowl Toshiba used 30 seconds of ad time promoting the HD DVD format.
It was a re-edit of the known American Football HD DVD ad asking "What do you do when the game is over?"
Rumors have been circulating that some retail chains including Circuit City and Wall-mart would clear out their inventory of HD DVD players and not re-stock. However, the ad shows that you can buy HD DVD players from Best Buy, Wall-mart, Amazon.com and Circuit city.

I was glued to my television from pre game to post game, and didn't see the ad in my area (Sacramento). Than I read from comments from Engadget that the ad was aired after the half time show, and not even in hi def. So did Toshiba really put out 2.7 million dollars for a re-edited commercial that wasn't even viewed nationally?
After seeing the ad on the net, the commercial itself did get the point out that they have a cheap player for $149. However, the ad was completely tacky, boring, and embarrassing. It was probably a good thing for Toshiba that it didn’t go nation wide. Toshiba probably had some reason for the ad not to be viewed through out all 50 states? And for the ad to be viewed after the half time show? That might be the worst time to put a 2.7 million dollar commercial on, when most people are making quick runs for more party trays, alcohol, or just going number one or two.

I live in Florida and didn't see the commercial. Did it really air? The one posted on Engadget sucked if thats what they showed :-( Toshiba is retarded when it comes to marketing. I had high hopes for this commercial.

Awful! A pre-game spot and a game spot which was just a reedited version of the ad they have been running for the last few months. And it wasn't even in HD it was matted! I'm beginning to wonder if Toshiba has a death wish!!
But I did like the Bud Lite ad with the cavemen and the wheel. The end, "Bottle opener sucks" had me rolloing on the floor.
As far as the Super Bowl, well it's a gloomy day here in Boston. First BD wins, then the Giants and then today, maybe Hillary??? AAArrrggghhhh!!!

What's worse, is not only did the non-HD HD-DVD stink... But after the game on I saw about 5 very sharp BR ads on MOJO.

Yeah I saw it in HD. I had two feeds going. I caught it on the Seatle feed. It's funny though, certain commercials were in HD the other were not. The Yukon Hybrid, and a few BUD ads were not not in HD. The Toshiba ad in Seattle was in HD, but the Detroit ad was not?
If Toshiba was smart they would drop the hammer and should have bought 2 mins of time and played the and used the promo spot with the RED pill...
