Amazon.com just took the high-end Toshiba HD-A35 1080p HD DVD Player down to an amazing $239.23. The Toshiba HD-A30 1080p HD DVD Player was available at $153.72 and the low-end Toshiba HD-A3 720p/1080i HD DVD Player at only $126. All models comes with seven free HD DVD movies.
The lowest Blu-ray players include the Samsung BD-P1400 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player for $329.98 and the Sharp Aquos BDHP20U 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player for $323.91.
If you want a profile 1.1 stand alone player the only one currently available is the Panasonic DMP-BD30K 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player which can be had for $414.99. Another option is the Playstation 3 which starts at $399.
According to not-officially-released figures from NPD, the week ending January 12th saw Blu-ray taking a 92.53% hardware (without the Playstation 3 and XBOX 360 add-on) market share, up from 51.17% the week before.
However, NPD and Stephen Baker, vice president of the company, have been out saying that the figures should not be taken as a trend of long-term sales.
BetaNews writes "So what went on the week ending January 12 that led to such high numbers in Blu-ray standalone player sales? Bundling deals with HDTVs, explained Baker. Sharp Blu-ray players accounted for over 30% of sales, as they were offered free to buyers of the company's LCD televisions."
It is also worth mentioning that NPD do not collect numbers from online retailer Amazon.com, where the most-sold DVD player right now is the Toshiba HD-A3 720p/1080i HD DVD Player.
The next months will tell more and we will be here to report it.
Stay tuned.

That says it all right there. When the Warner Bros news came out there were a lot of people that either sold their HD DVD players or were not buying them out of fear that the format was doomed so it only makes sense that bluray sales went up. Now that the dust has settled and people see that HD DVD is not going away anytime soon we can get on with it. Hopefully the HD DVD ad in the
Superbowl along with whatever other marketing campaigns the HD DVD camp has in store (and apparently they do have some) will turn things around. I know some people want ONE format but I prefer having an option and competition has ALWAYS been good for the consumer.

I'm with you Falcon. I don't care which format people think is better, I just want to be able to choose for myself.

Not quite the victory it seems to be at first glance, still more Blu in more hands- I can't argue with that... In the end its just Sony throwing more and more money behind their almost ready product... once Blu is as ready as HD DVD was over a year ago, I'll hop on board too I’m sure... unless something else comes along by then- and hey I’m open to that too.

It's been widely publicized already that Toshiba is unloading their inventory as they have lost the format war.
This is why Best Buy, Circuit City, and other CE companies are having clearance sales on these now obsolete players.

Still in denial blu-ray fanboys? Us HD DVD backers won't just "swallow our pride", we have the best, most reliable format and it has been $hot down for unknown rea$on$...clearance is not happening, and we are still strong.

Henning? Which format war are you watching?
I could post quite a few articles saying that Toshiba has lost the format war. It's obvious you are strongly HD DVD bias ... but the way you try to pretend your site is neutral and then you act like a complete Toshiba shill is laughable.
If you want me to post all of the links showing that Toshiba has lost please ask away, I would be happy to oblige.

biblyboy, I'm not talking about who is winning or loosing.
You said that Toshiba made a clearance sale on their players which is not true.
Again, you are welcome to join the debate but if your only purpose is to post links and make the lives of other posters miserable you are not welcome and you will be banned.
