A new report from Strategy Analytics Connected Home Devices service puts a total of 30 million Blu-ray devices in households by the end of 2008. However, not all with the intention of movie playback.
"This Strategy Analytics report predicts that global sales of Blu-ray devices will reach 18.8 million units in 2008, including 4 million stand-alone players, 13 million consoles and nearly 2 million PCs. By 2012, annual sales of all BD devices will reach 57.4 million units. The largest market will be in Europe, with 26.4 million, followed by the US (22.6 million) and Japan (8.4 million)." according to a press release.

Blu-ray Disc has now been confirmed as the de facto next generation optical disc standard. Our forecasts for BD players, games consoles and PCs indicate that total annual device sales will reach 57.4 million units annually by 2012. We estimate that nearly 30 million households worldwide will own at least one BD device by the end of 2008, and predict 132 million BD-owning households by 2012.

View profile »Sony's savior, the PS3, got people into Blu-Ray in a general way. The thing is that Blu-Ray still has so much potential, but they are being so slow in getting there! So if 30 million people are going to own a player, NOT A PS3 on the side, they need to get their act up and move it with their product, or it will be 30 million people... eventually... when the players are given away.

WELL, they are not going to convince the DVD population with $400+ BD players and $30-40 movies ???
DVD people are cheap and will not convert with thos prices !!!
