Rumors about an imminent price cut on the Playstation 3 now seem to have been false.
In a just-released press release Sony announced a new PS3 bundle package that will include the game Metal Gear Solid 4.
The package will include the 80GB PS3, the upcoming Metal Gear Solid(R)4: Guns of the Patriots, and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for $499 (MSRP).
It will be released in late Q2 2008.
So, with Sony removing the free Spider-man 3 copy from the 40GB and a new bundle in late Q2 both at the same retail prices as before, it seems that the prices will not change for some time.

Its a gaming system it seems like a better deal getting a game for a game system free than a movie about spiderman going through an emo phase

This is not surprising. I noticed the XBOX 360's got a $50 price cut up here in Canada. I'm guessing the same thing happened in the U.S.?

Between this and Sony's over-priced stand-alone players, I am seriously wondering where all of the Blu-Ray supporters are claiming that prices will drop now that the format war is over. Is it just me or has it only gotten more expensive (between hardware either staying the same price and going up and no longer coming with free movies).

Only Sony/BD fanboys really believed that Sony would drop the prices.

I will prolly pick one up then, MGS are great games (dont know what the hell is going on story wise but the games are great) Those 60 gig ps3s are the ones to get as they can play all psx and ps2 titles. Its interesting how sony downgraded their newer consoles, wonder what the story on that is.

I can't help but wonder if there still would be a price cut if the format war was still going on. Sony lost alot of money pushing blu-ray.(reportedly around 3 billion or more)
Now that the battle has pretty much been won they need to recover their losses somehow.
