Sony will release "Rent" on Blu-ray this December 11th.

Extras include commentaries and a feature length documentary.

Synopsis:
Set in New York City's gritty East Village, the revolutionary rock opera RENT tells the story of a group of bohemians struggling to live and pay their rent. "Measuring their lives in love," these starving artists strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness and the AIDS epidemic.

RENT is based on Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer and Tony Award winning musical, one of the longest running shows on Broadway. The raw and riveting musical stars Rosario Dawson, Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp and Tracie Thoms and is directed by Chris Columbus.

It was a big play on Broadway turned into a movie. Love Hendrix owns the soundtrack.

Believe it, I probably do have the XANADU soundtrack in my old LP collection.

Movie - RENT on Blu-ray - coming Dec 11

I haven't seen this film yet, but did buy it on standard DVD recently ($3.99 discount sale, at either BB or CC), and will watch before the end of the year. The music sounded real good on the trailer (included on another Sony DVD).

How could you not have heard of Rent? Even if you didn't see it or have any interest in it...

For the record, I do have the soundtrack.

But not Xanadu. I do have taste.

Perhaps because it was a box office bomb, and disappeared very fast from theaters, although it did have a decent run in New York (of course). I've noticed that many films lately are "tanking" during their theatrical run, and the home video market is where they usually get some return on the investment.

Nice try, Hendrix. Even if you didn't see it in the theater (for shame!), it's been on Broadway for seemingly eons. It's not all about the movies, ya know.

jason,

director chris columbus has had a long career, but he's directed only two good movies--the first two "harry potter" entries.

Oh come on, Eddie. Tell me what's so bad about Adventures in Babysitting or Bicentennial Man? )

Home Alone? Mrs. Doubtfire? Stepmom? None are classics, granted, but I don't think they're trash, either.
