A comedy that clings

From the producer of Miss Congeniality

"Supported by a more than competent cast and full of solid and unpredictable verbal jokes... More a personal journey than it is a romance."
—Sara Schieron (Box Office)

Sandra Bullock may have recently starred in Infamous and Premonition, but fans have been praying for her to get back to her comedy roots, and ALL ABOUT STEVE may just be the answer they've been looking for. In this film, Bullock plays a crossword puzzle constructor who follows a cameraman (Bradley Cooper) around the country. Thomas Haden Church (Sideways) also stars.

All About Steve is a 2009 American comedy film directed by Phil Traill and produced by Sandra Bullock, who also stars in the film. The movie's name is a pun on the 1950 film All About Eve.

Sandra Bullock plays eccentric crossword puzzle constructor Mary Horowitz who, after one short but sweet blind date, falls for handsome cable news cameraman Steve (Cooper). Convinced they are soulmates, Mary follows Steve across the country, encouraged by the self-serving actions of news reporter Hartman Hughes (Church). Along the way, Mary befriends an endearing group of oddballs who embrace her idiosyncrasies - forcing her to rethink her entire journey.

EXCERPT: I purposely waited until after I had seen the film and after I typed up most of my review on "All About Steve" to see how others had rated the film. Since this was a Sandra Bullock film, I didn't want any other negative views giving me negative flaws to look for as I watched the film. I expected mixed thoughts on "All About Steve," but I can hardly say I was surprised that the picture has received mostly woeful reviews and sits in the single digits on Rotten Tomatoes. The film has even been hit hard on the friendlier IMDB site. Therefore, I shouldn't feel too bad in saying "All About Steve" stinks. Many others seem to agree tat the character is not funny and Bullock's take on the character (Mary Horowitz) is for somebody that should be pitied and not laughed with. The world in general does not enjoy this film and I'm just going to go with the flow and recommend this is one to ignore.

After her marriage to celebrity mechanic Jesse James, Sandra Bullock seemed to disappear for a little while. This was a good thing, but sadly she is back and has a recent revival in her career thanks to "The Blind Side." While that film was a hit, "All About Steve" was not and between her annoying character and uneven filmmaking, the film should be avoided. It is just not fun. You ultimately are so put off by Mary that you don't feel right laughing or enjoying yourself. The exchange with M.C. Gainey about rape and her writing his license number on her arm was a perfect example of how far from funny this movie really was. The Blu-ray transfer is average and for once in my life I wish dialogue was muddied. It was not. There are some supplements and for those who feel I'm an idiot and that Sandra Bullock is amazing, you should be more than pleased with this release. For everybody else, please avoid this title.
