Sony will continue its line of Blu-ray players until late summer or early fall 2008. The current players do not support profile 1.1 or BD Live.
The company said that two new players are planned to replace the current line-up. The models are dubbed Sapphire 3 and Sapphire 4. Both are similar, but the latter will have more elite audio abilities. They will both support profile 1.1 and BD Live.
Pricing was not available at press time.

I am returning my HD DVD player to get a Blu-ray player. Should I wait for these players from Sony or get a PS3?

That would depend. Do you want a PS3? If you do, get it. Nobody else's opinion matters. It's your money, you spend it the way YOU see fit.
If you want to wait until these new Sony players come out, do that. Anybody can argue technical arguments in any favor. Just ask yourself two questions first:
1. Does the current player I am looking at have all of the features I want?
2. Is the current player I am looking at in my price range?
If you answer both of these questions honestly, you can make your own conclusions on what to buy.

Maybe he/she was posting from the news page topic? That's what I do...
I hope these players are CHEAP.. it's the only way I'm getting into Blu-Ray. No need for a PS3 as I don't care about the game franchises on Sony consoles. These players need to be sub-$200.

Would not the current players become alot cheaper once these newer ones come out?
I would be quite annoyed if I bought a BD player.... only to have it become out of date in a hurry... original DVD format never did that.
Does this mean future BD movies won't play on current version BD players?

Well, you obviously are not aware of how CES announcements are made or the method for product delivery cycles. When products are announced, such as the CES show this week, they will appear as early as within 6-8 weeks, and up to 7-8 months later.
Companies have some current models (inventory) still in the warehouse, and also sitting on store shelves, and they also have agreement with many retailers regarding the time and product cycles, for "when" the new models will be shipped to the retailers, so that the dealers are NOT stuck with much of the older product before the new inventory is ready to ship.
Pioneer announced their project KURO Plasmas at the 2007 CES, but these new models didn't appear until the summer, so that the remaining 2006 line could be almost sold out before the new KURO line was released to dealers.
FYI: during the Spring to Summer of each year is when most of the prior year's product line is "cleared" out from retail, as the dealers await the new year's new inventory. Most of the 2008 HDTVs, for example, that are announced this week, should start being released by mid-April at the earliest, and into the summer (by the end of August when the pro football season begins - also by the Olympics for this year, before football).
