Survey shows that 9% are likely to buy a Blu-ray player.

Harris Interactive asked more than 2500 adults on their interest in Blu-ray now that the format won over HD DVD. They asked 2529 adults between April 7th and April 15th 2008.

87% said they owned a DVD player
4% said they owned a Blu-ray player
5% said they owned a Playstation 3 console
9% said they owned a XBOX 360 console
1% said they owned a XBOX 360 HD DVD drive
6% said they owned a HD DVD player
35% said they owned a HDTV

Of the non-Blu-ray owners, 9% said that it was "likely" that they would buy a player within a year. All asked were made aware that Blu-ray is considered to be the definitive technology for high-definition DVD players going forward.

The survey also asked current HD DVD owners what would become of their HD DVD player.

45% said that they will just continue to use it and continue purchasing HD DVDs as long as they are available.

14% said they will will continue to use it with the HD DVDs they have already purchased, but do not plan on buying any new ones.

15% said they will continue to use it but also plan to invest in a Blu-ray disc player in the future.

Source: The Harris PollŪ was conducted online within the United States between April 7 and 15, 2008, among 2,529 adults (aged 18 and over). Figures for age, sex, race, education, region and household income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population.
