UPDATED: Lots of cover art and full details.
Tools:
New Line Home Entertainment will release "The Golden Compass" on DVD & Blu-ray this April 29th. The film stars Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, and introducing Dakota Blue Richards. Single and double disc editions will be available on DVD. The film was a smash hit overseas despite its poor numbers in the US and Canada.
Full list of extra features have now been revealed and the 2-Disc Edition will include almost 3 hours of extra material that focus on the novel and its journey to the screen, production and casting, and featurettes on the Alethiometer and creatures of Lyra's world.
The Blu-ray edition will include all of the above plus a "Visually Enhanced Commentary."
Be sure to check under related releases below for more details and lots of cover art.
Synopsis:
In a parallel Oxford, young Lyra Belacqua begins a dimension-crossing odyssey that builds from a merely atypical children's adventure into a complex (and frequently quite dark) philosophical epic. Based on the first book in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.
Please Note - More details:

correct me if i'm wrong, but as an aussie, it is my opinion that Nicole Kidman is one of our most overated actresses of modern times, personally i don't even think she can act because she only ever plays characters that are very similar to herself..... just throwing it out there
This is one title i wont mind waiting three weeks for the HD DVD release lol (should it even be released)

It is my understanding that even though New Line is an affiliate of Warner Bros., as is BBC Pictures, the companies follow their own paths in terms of high def. WB is continuing to produce HD DVD until the end of May, BBC will continue to be dual format for the foreseeable future, and New Line seems to have stopped all HD DVD production as of here and now. Although New Line's press site still lists "Hairspray" as "forthcoming on HD DVD," I think maybe "Pan's Labyrinth" will be their first and last HD DVD (unless they have a sudden change of heart). I honestly don't think anybody knows where HD DVD is going at the moment. We'll have to wait and see.

According to 1Advd's website it's being released April 4 of 2008 along with a few nice surprises such as L.A. Confidential, Robin Hood, Mystic River, Death Sentence and that flick with Robin Williams Hillary Swank and Al Pacino.... I'm having a major brain fart right now but I'm sure you know the one I'm trying to remember, THX..:-}

Interesting. 1Advd is a German Web site, and the edition announced there is the German edition. I wonder if New Line is only releasing the German version, because the studio hasn't announced anything about an HD DVD edition for this country. (Unlike their WB affiliate, who will continue making HD DVDs until the end of May, New Line now seem to have stopped production of all HD DVDs in the U.S.) Well, at least HD DVD owners may be able to buy it from Europe, and it says there is an English soundtrack:
