Paramount will release "There Will Be Blood" on DVD and HD DVD this April 8th.

It will be released in a single DVD edition containing only the movie. A 2 Disc Collector's Edition will also be released on DVD and HD DVD. Extras include extra scenes, making offs and more.

The HD DVD have been canceled and will not be released. We are awaiting official word from Paramount.

Synopsis:
A sprawling epic of family, faith, power and oil, THERE WILL BE BLOOD is set on the incendiary frontier of California´s turn-of-the-century petroleum boom. The story chronicles the life and times of one Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis), who transforms himself from a down-and-out silver miner raising a son on his own into a self-made oil tycoon. When Plainview gets a mysterious tip-off that there´s a little town out West where an ocean of oil is oozing out of the ground, he heads with his son, H.W. (Dillon Freasier), to take their chances in dust-worn Little Boston. In this hardscrabble town, where the main excitement centers around the holy roller church of charismatic preacher Eli Sunday (Paul Dano), Plainview and H.W. make their lucky strike. But even as the well raises all of their fortunes, nothing will remain the same as conflicts escalate and every human value – love, hope, community, belief, ambition and even the bond between father and son – is imperiled by corruption, deception and the flow of oil.

I surely hope Paramount, Dreamwoks, and WB release their HD-DVD titles at least until May.

So assuming Paramount's Blu soon, I wonder when that release will happen. Anywho, been waiting on this announcement for TWBB is a must-own. Can't wait for the HD reviews.

Henning, thanks for a bit of positive news for those of us that are still Neutral or still in the Red Camp.

I guess they won't have the Blu release ready in enough time, and don't want to miss the boat on popular HDM releases, either HD DVD or Blu-Ray.

If they will offer it, I will pre-order ASAP

An April 8th Paramount release might suggest that Sweeney Todd might be back on the slate as well on April 1st, as Johnny Depp was nominated for Best Actor.

I guess nothing is actually over, until it's actually over, whenever that might be.

Maybe the overwhelming popularity of the Universal Pictures American Gangster release has reminded at least 1 studio that there is still money to be made from HD DVD releases???

I still hope for a swift release of these films on Blu-Ray as well, so everyone can be satisfied about getting what they want on their own chosen format.

So we still don't know for sure whether or not we are getting an HD-DVD release. I really wish Paramount would give us a straight answer as there are a number of high demand titles (ie Bee Movie, There Will Be Blood, ect.) that may or may not be coming out on HD-DVD. Of course of the Blu-Ray fan sites (ie Hollywood Reporter, Format War Central, ect.) are all claiming that it is a done deal but today (March 4th) was supposed to have been that day when paramount was to make an official announcement. They may follow the Warner Bros. tract and wait until June to stop releasing.

I read on DVDActive that Paramount has cancelled their HD-DVDs of "Sweeney Todd" and "There Will Be Blood".

Ok, I went over to DVDActive and they have the artwork up for TWBB and it shows 'Also available on HD DVD'

Don't believe me, click the link to the movie, and look at the 5th photo down on the lower right side, you will see printed in red where it says also available on HD DVD.

It is getting hilarious that almost every site seems to have an insider report that this film has been canceled, but Paramount itself has not issued any type of press releases to confirm or dispel the rumors.

A lot of these cancellations are assumed because the disc Artwork gets pulled from the studios main page, but that has happened to many movies because they are revising the artwork, and it usually gets re-posted in a short mater of time.

Especially now that Daniel Day-Lewis won the Oscar for Best Actor, they may be only making that last minute edit to the artwork, that not only did the film have Academy nominations, but now has Daniel Day-Lewis winning the Award for Best Actor.

Wow, that's great news !!

If The Digital Bits says it's canceled, it is obviously going to be released on HD DVD

Blu Ball Hunt said Beowulf was canceled too, in fact I believe that everything HD DVD was supposed to have spontaneously combusted by now.

That's why I store my HD DVD library submerged in a bathtub full of ice water, and have implemented Liquid Cooling on the Chipset of every HD DVD player I own.
