Wal-mart started the recent price war on HD DVD and they don't seem make it last effort to support the format.

Yesterday they started a TV ad campaign for the Toshiba HD DVD player. Thanks to YouTube you can check it out below:

On Friday 8AM they will launch their "Secret In-Store Specials" where you will be able to buy a Toshiba A2 HD DVD player for an amazing $98.87. They will also sell select movies for $14.87.

Looks like HD DVD may have a new friend among retailers.

This move reeks of desperation. Hd dvd will now never make any money because customers will expect this price and there is no way this is turning any profit. In fact it is actually illegal to sell this in some states due to some laws about selling under cost. Honestly, if cuztomers have spent the last ten years and thousands of dollars buying dvd of their favorite vhs, why would they spend thousands again. I only see people buying new movies but not old ones. He DVD is going to bury itself. I guess I am officially Blu now.

I checked (2) Walmarts... All gone. I tried BestBuy last night, because their regular price for the A2 was $99, and they were sold out. Brought a print out of the BB price to CircuitCity because they'll price match, and they were out of the A2s as well.

Plenty of BD players, but $499... There were four employees that wanted HD-DVD players if I could find them @ $99. It's gonna be a sweep this holiday season.
