"The Dark Knight" is expected to break a lot of records including 1 million Blu-ray copies shipped to retail in the first week, sources close to the studio said.

"Iron Man" on Blu-ray shipped 500.000 copies in the first week of retail. "Iron Man" and "The Dark Knight" show that Blu-ray has come a long way since March 2007 where the first edition of "Casino Royale" shipped 100.000 copies.

In fact a lot of work is being done to secure the success and keep momentum of the format and Warner Bros. among others are sure that lower prices and special bundle offers will do the trick. "We have been working with key retailers to put together account specific offers, where we bundle a device or the PlayStation 3 remote with one of our titles, which gives the customers value in return," said Dorinda Marticorena, Warner senior VP of worldwide marketing and high-def. "You will see a plethora of offers from Warner in November and December."

So far, the two blu-ray movies that I've purchased have been from Target:
-Iron Man, in the special mask edition
-IJATKOTCS, with the booklet

and this Tuesday, it'll be:
-Hellboy II, lower price and a *comic book...

Besides the meh batpod edition, I'm more than sure we'll get something cooler from other retailers...

I will not leave this to Netflix to get hundreds of copies and still not get it on rental, this will be a rare must own.

my reaction is..."so what?"

i would give a damn if the announcement had been, "warner bros. expected to donate $1 million to orphanages" or something like that. (Y)

The "so what" is that it's probably going to be a milestone for Blu-ray. It shows that the format is continuing to grow at a steady pace as opposed to all the doomsayers claiming it's knocking at death's door.

Eddie, I would agree with the rest...this is a milestone for a format that still has to get it's 5hit* together...really, one million units?

However...if most of DK's success came from repeat viewings, will it make sense???
