Microsoft has issued a press release regarding new releases on their movie download service on XBOX Live.
Press release:
It is a good thing March is packed with new additions to the Xbox LIVE Marketplace Video Store because U.S. Xbox LIVE members can´t seem to get enough. In fact, monthly sales are up more than 70% since September, 2007 and doubling month over month.
Much of the new content will be available in high definition, helping to give Xbox LIVE the largest HD video-on-demand library anywhere. The Video Store currently has more than 1000 hours of HD programming, which is more than twice as many hours as any other service, including cable.
Not only will U.S. Xbox LIVE members have access to great HD content this month, but they will also be able to download content exclusive to Xbox LIVE, including a free episode of Lewis Black: Root of All Evil on Comedy Central. The premier episode of comedian Lewis Black´s new show will be free to all Xbox LIVE members from March 13- March 20.
Xbox LIVE has the exclusive content people want. The ever popular television comedy series Robot Chicken: Star Wars (created and directed by Seth Green) will be made available exclusively to Xbox LIVE members on March 4, two months before the DVD is available in stores this coming May. Anime fans will be able to download Afro Samurai starring Samuel L. Jackson – only available in HD on the Xbox LIVE service. In addition, new episodes of South Park will arrive on the service the week of March 10.
Younger Xbox LIVE members will be thrilled to see NANCY DREW: DREW´S CLUES available for download in March from Warner Bros. The film, starring Emma Roberts, is a special version of the theatrical release, with clever trivia and clues popping up throughout the movie. Xbox LIVE members can play along with the film, creating a truly immersive viewing experience. The theatrical version will be available as well.
Want more content for kids? ABC Family launches on Xbox LIVE, with episodes of Kyle XY and Greek available for download starting the week of March 10. The first season of Hannah Montana and the first season of the Suite Life of Zack and Cody will be available for download from the Disney Channel starting on March 24. Also from ABC, seasons 1 and 2 of Grey´s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives will hit the service on March 10.
Some great movies will be available in the U. S. on Xbox LIVE this month in both SD and HD, including:
Tyler Perry´s Why Did I Get Married (Lionsgate)
Bull Durham (MGM)
Rain Man (MGM)
Into the Wild (Paramount, Oscar nominated, Best Supporting Actor)
Things We Lost in the Fire (Paramount)
Gone Baby Gone (Walt Disney Studios, Oscar nominated, Best Supporting Actress)

I've started renting movies pretty much exclusively through XBL. They're only $4 for SD($6 HD). Thats actually cheaper than blockbuster and I dont have to leave my house. I'm very excited about all the new content. I'm hoping that in the future Microsoft will include more functionality with XBL movies/tv shows and the Zune. I'd love to be able to transfer any TV shows or movies I purchased to my zune to watch when Im going on a trip or something.

All I know is that in Canada we're getting bent over big-time by Microsoft when it comes to xbox live.
1 new release HD movie download = $9.24....and we are at par with the US dollar.
So let's see....I can download the 720P 5.1 DD version of a movie from Microsoft for $9.24, and watch it once (twice at the most) in 24 hrs, or I could just buy the HD DVD/Blu disc for $30 and have it forever....with 1080P and advanced audio codecs. Microsoft must think we're stupid.
I downloaded Michael Clayton in HD from MS just to try it...but that will be the last time i use the service.

I agree with Bosshog7. I'm also in Canada and here you can rent the blue-ray disc at Blockbuster for $6.99cdn or even better at Rogers Video for $5.49cdn
I'm sure as hell not going to pay more money for less product (1080p and lossless audio with blue-ray vs 720p and compressed audio with xbox)
Scew MS, I'll go the the video store.

Ok, so xbox live gets a bad wrap in Canada... anybody else tried their movies? How does it work? Do you get a window of time to see it before it expires? As you can see, I don't do xbox 360.

I really like it...It's a movie rental service.
Once you download it you have 14 days to begin watching it. After you begin watching it you have 24 hours until it expires. Within that 24 hour period you can view it as many times as you want. It's a good price, and I dont have to go to blockbuster. Thats why I like it.
