Terry Schappert is a medic. Big deal, right? You could probably take him out. Did I mention that he´s also in the Green Berets? That´s right. If you mess with him, he´s going to hurt you real bad. But if you´re nice to him, maybe he´ll patch you up later.
Schappert, also a Gulf War veteran, hosts the History series "Warriors" which takes a long at a different warrior culture each week, spanning both the globe and history. The series covers a remarkably diverse array of cultures including Mayans, Vikings, Hawaiians, and modern Special Forces.
Much like Mike Rowe in the Discovery Series "Dirty Jobs," Schappert meets a new group of people each week and tries to learn a new set of skills. Where Rowe winds up working in mudpits and coal mines, Schappert learns how to use exotic weapons like the atlatl or a technique for clubbing someone´s skull til it blows up real good.
Schappert speaks quite a bit with living historians, researchers who not only study ancient cultures but interpret history by dressing and living like their subjects. These living historians keep alive the martial traditions of people like the Mayans and Vikings and it looks like they´re having an awful lot of fun.
Schappert sure looks like he´s enjoying himself too, and that´s one of the keys to the appeal of this series. Though a war veteran who has no doubt seen his share of hardcore duty, he still expresses a childlike wonder when he gets to play with his new toys each week. It´s a little surprising to see a Green Beret refer to people as "dude" and "man" all the time, but then again I guess you don´t decide to become a Green Beret unless you´re a serious adrenaline junkie.
