Blake Edwards directed the film ("Days of Wine and Roses," "The Pink Panther," "10") and Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini wrote the words and music for the Academy Award-winning theme song, "Moon River."

Video:
The DVD picture quality is sharply etched and the colors are extremely vivid. It's also more than a bit grainy, with occasional age flecks and lines. The widescreen ratio is 1.85:1.

Audio:
Audio choices are Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Surround Stereo. DD 5.1 must be selected at startup since Dolby Surround is the default. Once selected, it projects a decently wide image from the front channels, but only on some musical tracks does it utilize the rear speakers for ambient reflections. It's fairly clear sound, limited only in dynamics and frequency range compared to newer releases.

Extras:
Paramount offer little besides the movie: English and French language choices, English captions, scene selections, and a trailer.

Parting Thoughts:
"Breakfast at Tiffany's" sustains a spirited bounce in its step that is still infectious today. The ending aside, it also maintains a good distance from any obvious sentimentality. Viewers who like the film remain diehard loyalists for life. It surely has its charms.
