Death Proof
The film stumbles at times, never quite finding the same stride as the director’s previous efforts.

Audio
The DVD also comes with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English, French and Italian. The English mix is as good as you might hope for. The surrounds are nicely sued in the chase scenes and even the more laid back moments such as the bar, with ambient sounds filling out the speakers appropriately. Dialogue is clear and well balanced. There are no problems with the mix other than the ones added for the Grindhouse effect. English and Spanish subtitles are also included.

Extras
The DVD comes with a fair amount of extras that run the gamut of behind the scenes information delivery. The first is "Stunts on Wheels: The Legendary Drivers Of Death Proof", which is an impressive, 20 minute look at the stunt drivers who worked on the film. There are various interviews with Tarantino, stunt coordinator Jeff Dashnaw, Kurt Russell, Buddy Joe Hooker, Tracey Keehn Dashnaw, Chrissy Weathersby and many others. They go into an in depth look at how they pull of one of Stuntman Mike´s car flip scenes, in a word it´s impressive.

"Introducing Zoe Bell" is a 9 minute featurettes on Bell, with interviews and insight from the stuntwoman/actress and how Tarantino essentially changed her life.

"Kurt Russell As Stuntman Mike" is a 9 minute jaunt into Kurt Russell and his portrayal of Stuntman Mike. "Finding Quentin's Gals", is a 20 minute look at the various actresses Tarantino employed to make his ass-kicking chicks´ movie." The Uncut Version of Baby It's You Performed By Mary Elizabeth Winstead" is just a longer take of Winstead singing along to 'Baby It's You' on her iPod. "The Guys of Death Proof" is much shorter look at Tarantino´s casting of the fellas in the film. "Quentin's Greatest Collaborator: Editor Sally Menke" is a 4 and half minute featurette with Tarantino talking about Menke´s influence on his work. This is all rounded out by a few trailers for the film (on disc one) and a trailer for "Double Dare", the documentary which brought Bell to Tarantino´s attention in the first place.

Film Value
What "Death Proof" lacks in drawing from Tarantino´s usual film brain repertoire, it makes up for in sheer gusto. The girls are all likeable and sympathetic (though there is a clear difference in how much you "like" the girls in the first segment versus the second). The film stumbles at times, never quite finding the same stride as the director´s previous efforts. Despite being split from the "Grindhouse experience" the film works, maybe not as well as it would otherwise, but the two-disc set leaves you wondering what an eventual double dip might incur.
