("Dr. Quinn") quickly caught on with a largely female audience, running for six seasons. Itremains very popular in syndication even today.

I am not going to list each episode here. You can also find the complete episode guide at Wikipedia.

Each disc contains 3 or 4 episodes, except for a few discs which only have 2 and some special features. The Seasons break down as follows

SEASON 2 (1993-1994): Discs 6-12

SEASON 3 (1994-1995): Discs 13-20

SEASON 4 (1995-1996): Discs 21-28

SEASON 5 (1996-1997): Discs 29-35

SEASON 6 (1997-1998): Discs 36-41

DISC 42 includes two "Dr. Quinn" TV movies: "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: The Movie: Revolutions" (1999) and "Dr. Quinn, The Heart Within" (2001).

VIDEO

The episodes are presented in their original 1.33:1 broadcast ratios. I have only sample four episodes to check for video quality, and all I can say the transfers are mediocre at best. These are interlaced transfers and the combing is worse than on many such transfers. Image quality is about average, but the colors look pretty sharp. I´m sure this is the best image being offered (since TV series don´t often get progressive transfers and/or restoration) but if it would influence your decision on this set, please know that the episodes simply look OK. Not terrible, not as good as you might want. Just OK.

AUDIO

The episodes are presented in Dolby Digital Stereo. No subtitles are provided.

EXTRAS

Several extras are scattered throughout this massive collection. Several discs contain brief Cast Bios. Other extras are as follows.

DISC 5:

"Jane Seymour: Hollywood´s English Rose" (43 min.) is an episode of A&E´s "Biography."

"An Interactive Tour of 19th Century Colorado Springs" enables viewers to click on tabs like "Bank," "Mercantile," "Saloon," and "Clinic" to get a text screen or two of information and numbers about what life was like in late 19th century C-Springs. There is also a text feature describing the history of the town.

DISC 8: Commentary track on episode "Best Friends" by Joe Lando.

DISC 12: "Beginnings" (11 min.), a featurette about the genesis of the series.

DISC 20: Commentary track on episode "For Better or Worse" by Jane Seymour and Joe Lando.

DISC 28: "Favorites" (10 min.) featurette in which cast members discuss their favorite episodes.

DISC 31: Commentary on episode "Legend" by Shawn Toovey and Chad Allen.

DISC 39: Commentary on episode "Point Blank" by Jane Seymour and James Keach.

DISC 42: In addition to the two "Dr. Quinn" TV movies listed in the main body of the review, there is also a Trivia Quiz and a Production Still Photo Gallery.

SERIES VALUE

Ignore my rating to the left. I haven´t seen an episode of "Dr. Quinn." For the record, my aunt absolutely loved it, and its enduring popularity in syndication suggests she is hardly the only one.

For a "Dr. Quinn" fan, you could hardly ask for anything more than this gorgeous, sprawling boxed set. It´s got a hefty price tag but on a per disc basis, it´s more than reasonable. The individual seasons are already available. At full retail price, the six individual seasons and the disc with the "Dr. Quinn" movies would cost approx. $300 to this set´s $229.95.
