Audio:
You can watch the show with either Dolby Digital 2.0 mono Japanese or DD 5.1 surround English. There is an option for English subtitles. Call me crazy, but I watched it in Japanese with English subtitles. The English voices are the same as for the "Lupin the 3rd" TV series. Although that may seem like common sense, it wasn´t that long ago that the English cast for Japanese to English dubs would often change between feature productions, not to mention between TV seasons, or even during seasons. Personally, I don´t really care for the English voices, especially the one for Goemon, which is why I decided to watch this in Japanese.

Extras:
There are three extras. The first is "Film Promotion", which has a few of the original movie posters and pages from the booklet that was handed out at the movie´s premiere in 1978. The pictures of the movie posters are kind of small, and the booklet pages are untranslated.

The second extra is "Conceptual Art". It shows several pre-production sketches of characters, vehicles, and so on.

The final extra is the original, unedited Japanese clip of the coroner´s report with subtitles. Considering that the translation seems to have been spot on, I don´t feel cheated that the report in the movie was edited.

There are two other items in the Extras menu that I don´t consider to really be value added. The first is "Pioneer Previews", which has a whopping twenty-one minutes of previews! The second is DVD Reviews. While I suppose these couldn´t have been placed elsewhere, perhaps companies could create a new menu to put advertisements in.

--Miscellaneous--
The DVD comes with a booklet that has English translations for several pages of the booklet that was handed out at the movie´s premiere in 1978. The cover is reversible. The case also had a "Lupin the 3rd" keychain inside. I really like the keychain, I use it to hold all of my lab keys.

Film Value:
The first "Lupin the 3rd" movie I saw was "Castle of Cogliostro", which was directed by the incomperable Hayao Miyazaki. Its story and action kept me riveted for the entire play time, and is definitely something I would watch again. On the other hand, I was wondering when "The Secret of Mamo" was going to end at one point and will probably not see it again. Bottom line—if you´re a fan of the "Lupin the 3rd" series, see this movie. If not, watch some of the other movies or the TV series first, and if you like them, catch this movie.
