Audio:
You can watch the show in either Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo Japanese or Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo English. There are options for English subtitles, commentary, and "weird" subtitles. I watched it in Japanese with English subtitles. I also watched a few minutes of "weird" subtitles, just to see what they meant by "weird". To my amazement, the series was subtitled in pig Latin.
You can not truly address the sound of this series without mentioning the voice actors. There is some real talent assembled on this disc. I don't believe half of this series would have worked without Kobayashi herself. I tip my hat to this voice actress. She really adds a tremendous amount to the series as a whole.
The sound in "Puni Puni Poemy" is very well designed. All the affects and background music seem at place in the chaos that ensues from the beginning of the first episode. Much of the music can be recognized from the "Excel Saga" series. This seems very appropriate, as this series came from a joke within an "Excel Saga" episode. Like many anime, "Puni Puni Poemy" has a catchy opening. The theme song in this series sticks in your head, and simply will not leave. The lyrics to this song are also rather unique. I believe this is the first song that I have heard which uses the term "bunghole".
Extras:
I must gush when it comes to extras on this DVD. There are more extras on this disc, than I have seen on any anime DVD. This disc comes with a reversible cover, a poster, a "Puni Puni Poemy" patch, the option for "weird" subtitles, the option for commentary, a behind the scenes documentary, production sketches, an art gallery, a clean opening, and a clean closing. There are more extras on this disc than show. I am truly awed and amazed by the dedication that was given to this disc. It is truly a treasure trove of fun items.
--Miscellaneous--
The DVD comes with a single-page, colored poster/insert with the story of "Puni Puni Poemy's" creation on it.
Film Value:
"Puni Puni Poemy" is a very fast paced series. It has to be with only two episodes. However, the amount of material covered in these two episodes astonishes me. I attribute this mainly to the super fast speaking of the wastefully energetic Poemy (Kobayashi). It took me days to stop laughing at the jokes in this series. If that does not say that this series is a good comedy, then I do not know what will.
The premise of this series is absolutely ludicrous. That is what makes it so fun. It is a bizarre and fantastical tale, punctuated by loads of comedy. This series has raised the bar just a little higher, and left its memorable mark. What is most impressive in this feat, is that it did so in only two episodes. I can see where the series could get old if it had been stretched out over time. Two episodes, however, seems just about right. I recommend this series to anyone who wants a good laugh, and has little time or patience to build up to it.
