Sound:
While not being nearly as audibly impressive as "The Fast and the Furious," "2 Fast, 2 Furious" is another high quality sounding film that nicely delivers the symphonic notes of engine revs and exhaust notes to life. I love the sound of a poweful motor and these films always deliver them to my ears with aplomb. The Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 mix features wonderful imaging across all channels and brings the ambient effects of the soundtrack to the ears on a consistent basis. Bass response is quite good and especially effective when the big V8s are heard tearing across the screen. Compared to the first film, this second soundtrack is mostly effective during the race scenes and when cars are not racing, the soundtrack is now nearly as impressive. There aren´t as many explosions or other non-car related action sequences to be heard. Dialogue is still quite crisp and the sound is very clear.

Extras:
"2 Fast, 2 Furious" again is packed with a large number of bonus materials. Comparing the feature list of the standard definition DVD, this release appears to contain all of the same extras that was included on that disc. The supplements listed on the rear packaging are as follows:

* Inside "2 Fast, 2 Furious"
* Driving School with the Cast
* Supercharged Stunts
* Making Music with Ludacris
* Outtakes
* Thrilling Deleted Scenes
* Tricking Out a Hot Import Car
* Prelude to "2 Fast, 2 Furious"
* Spotlight on the Cast: Paul Walker, Tyrese and Devon Aoki
* Spotlight on the Cars: The Spyder, the Evo VII, the S2000
* Animated Anecdotes
* Feature Commentary with Director John Singleton

Going through the supplements, the Feature Commentary with Director John Singleton is one of the more worthwhile entries. Singleton gives a great look at the making of the film and though I did not enjoy this track as I enjoyed the one for "Four Brothers," this offered up a lot of details and improved my opinion of the film ever so slightly. The Tricking Out a Hot Import Car shows that Universal knows how to pander to its target audience. This feature includes sexy cars and a sexy Playboy Playmate. Its purpose is to show how to trick out an import car and even without the lovely lady, it would have been interesting. Inside "2 Fast, 2 Furious,, Prelude to "2 Fast, 2 Furious, Driving School with the Cast,, Supercharged Stunts and Making Music with Ludacris are short and forgettable, though worth checking out once. The Outtakes and Deleted Scenes are very short and adds nothing of great substance to the film´s canon. They certainly weren´t too ´thrilling.´ The Spotlight on the Cast and adjoining Spotlight on the Cars are short, but worthy looks at either cast members or the creation of some of the film´s more impressive cars.

Closing Thoughts:
Out of the three films in the "Fast and the Furious" trilogy, this second entry is the one that I disliked. I couldn´t find too much to like about it. John Singleton is a very good director, but even he could not save this mess. Paul Walker and a fine cast of cars was not enough to make this film any more entertaining. This isn´t the type of film you sit down and expect a thought provoking story, but it is a film you expect to entertain you. I didn´t feel that it entertained me consistently enough to enjoy. I enjoyed the muscle cars and a few other scenes, but the rest of the film tended to bore me. Regardless of story, this is the best looking of the three films. The sunny Miami exteriors serve the film well. The soundtrack is a definite notch below the first film in the grand scheme of things, but the racing scenes are still the stuff reference material is made from. Universal needs commended for the supplements it provides for these three films and although I only included a brief overview of the supplements, they are plentiful. The only way I can recommend this film is for its fans and those wanting the full "Fast and the Furious" trilogy on glorious High Definition HD-DVD.
