Video:
"I Know What You Did Last Summer" utilizes the MPEG-4 AVC video codec and is transferred onto a 50GB dual-layer Blu-ray disc. Black levels are exceptionally rich, which is how it should be for a horror film that takes place primarily at night. Colors are slightly soft and muted, though, and I noticed a bit of minor noise in one or two scenes. I was still very impressed with the relatively clean transfer, and while it might be quick to label the widescreen 2.40:1 picture as reference material, it's fair to say that it's pretty darn close.

Audio:
The disc boasts English, French, and Portuguese audio tracks in lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1. Like the video, I'd personally rank the audio pretty high, although I found the musical score to be just a bit overbearing in places. Also included are optional subtitles for English SDH, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Dutch, and Arabic, but only French and Dutch subtitles appear to be available on the bonus materials.

Extras:
As with most releases nowadays, we have an Audio Commentary with Director Jim Gillespie and Editor Steve Mirkovich. I thought it was great hearing Gillespie shed light on many of the production woes, but Mirkovich rarely chimes in with much of anything. To me, it almost felt like he was uncomfortable or just there to keep the director company so he didn't have to talk to himself.

Now I Know What You Did Last Summer (27 min.) is a "Making of" featurette with Jim Gillespie (Director), Stokely Chaffin (Producer), Kevin Williamson (Writer), plus stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Anne Heche tagalong for the ride.

I really enjoyed Gillespie's Short Film "Joyride" (10 min.) about a man who is held hostage in the trunk of his car. It's a low-budget project produced for film festivals and is definitely worth checking out. It even comes with its own optional audio commentary by Gillespie.

Rounding out the bonuses is Music Video for the track "Hush" performed in by Hula Shaker, and there are a few trailers on startup: "Blu-ray Disc," "21," and "Starship Troopers 3: Marauder."

The packaging states that "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is BD-Live Enabled, but unfortunately I can't comment much about this since my Panasonic Blu-ray player is only profile 1.1 compliant.

The Final Cut:
Give me a '90s slasher film over the more recent and often tiresome Americanized remakes of Asian horror any day of the week. I can't bring myself to classify "I Know What You Did Last Summer" as a horror movie, since I didn't really find it all that frightening. But it does have the makings of a decent thriller and maintains a continuous flow of suspense. There are two or three solid moments that register pretty high on the Jump-O-Matic, too.

Just be warned that Williamson's stories tend to be geared towards the younger generation, and as such they may not satisfy everyone's tastes. Since I happened to be in the target age group when the film first hit theaters, it'll always be a classic to me.
