Rather than waste battery usage fast forwarding through the majority of Lovecracked! The Movie, just search out the better short films on-line.
Along with skipping all moments involving the journalist, keep that fast-forward finger ready for the unbelievably self-absorbed "History of the Lurkers," which is easily the worst of the nine segments. The rest of the "films" are generally ignorable, with only a few exceptions. Ashley Thorpe's "The Remain" is extremely effective stop-motion tale of a painting commanding its artist to kill. But the two shining gems of the lot are by Swedish filmmaker Tomas Almgren, who wrote and directed the stunning "BugBoy" and scripted the simplistic yet brilliant "Chaos of Flesh" for director Grady Granros. "BugBoy" is a Kafkaesque tale as seen through a Lynchian lens, while "Chaos" is an excellent, straight-up horror yarn.
The only other short subject worth mentioning is the rather jarring inclusion of a scene from the porno flick " Re-Penetrator." It arrives at the tail end of "Lovecracked," and without much warning the audience is "treated" to an edited pornographic spoof of the classic "Re-Animator." While all of the "penetration" shots have been cleverly blocked or cut, the vision of a blood covered Joanna Angel oozing green goo after a raunchy sex scene with co-star Tommy Pistol (playing Dr. Hubert Breast) may be too much for the more-timid viewer.
Video:
By embracing its low budget in the first scene, "Lovecracked" makes its horrible full-screen presentation a bit more tolerable. While the picture quality gets slightly better during some of the short films, a low video quality is present throughout.
Audio:
The audio is just as low budget as the video, but for a film with an estimated ten-thousand-dollar budget, it's not nearly as bad as it could have been. At least these guys know how to properly mike a scene.
Extras:
Of the four short films included in the special features, only Ana Torres-Alvarez's eleven-minute "A Matter of Hair" is worth watching. Why "Hair" was skipped over in favor of garbage like "History of the Lurkers" is what that investigative journalist should be looking into. The three other easily dismissed films--"The Voice Inside," "Masturbating Ghost," and the hidden "Creamy and Delicious"--are better left unwatched. Especially the awful, thirteen-minute, self-indulgent mess "The Voice Inside"; although it´s a perfectly good example of what too many Marilyn Manson T-Shirts and parents willing to send you to art school will get ya. Also not worth your time is the unfunny and unredeemable eleven-minute blooper reel and tacked-on music videos.
Film Value:
Rather than waste battery usage fast forwarding through the majority of "Lovecracked! The Movie," just search out the better short films on-line. Ashley Thorpe, Grady Granros, Ana Torres-Alvarez, and the very talented Tomas Almgren all have bright, creative futures ahead of them. "Lovecracked" will just be a forgotten step on their hike up the stairway to notoriety.
