Audio:
Chace Digital Stereo has stepped up to the plate and presented a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix for "Maximum Overdrive." AC/DC saw fit to record some original material for this shlockfest. They have also allowed King to use other songs that were previously popular. AC/DC is the best part of the film and the Chace surround mix thumps along with more purpose than the killer lawnmower of Chapter 12. The music could have been spread a little more across the left and right channels for a more rocking soundtrack, but it has not been. The dialogue is perfectly intelligible and contained in the center channel with the band. Sound effects are presented in a moderate fashion, they neither give reason to cheer and when compared to the film, certainly are nothing to cry about. "Maximum Overdrive" is also one of the few films released by Anchor Bay that seems to have closed captioning.

Extras:
This DVD would have been a whole lot more entertaining if it had something that could be called ´value added content.´ It does not. A trailer is presented that ends with Stephen King saying "I´m going to scare the Hell out of you!" It could be said that I´m still waiting for Mr. King to deliver on his promise. In addition to the poorly executed promise contained in the form of a theatrical trailer, there is an informative biography on the man who failed to deliver. Reading through the bio offers up some light on the making of this film and some reason as to why he never sat in the director´s chair again. Anchor Bay, unfortunately, did see fit to include the movie with this keep case. That was probably a bad move.

Summary:
Okay, I have been pretty hard on "Maximum Overdrive" and there are probably some Stephen King fans out there feeding Cujo and preparing to have him bite me in the rump. I won´t lie, there was a few passing seconds in this film that I enjoyed. Because it is the only film ever directed by Stephen King, it does deserve a spot in history. For those who dare watch this film (and… if you are a Stephen King fan… I dare you), as you watch it, try to figure out the tagline of "Who Made Who?" Email me if you find an intelligent explanation for it.
