...it would be particularly surprising if viewers of the film failed to be impressed with the Lin that we see throughout the film.
Video:
Video on "Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision " is presented in a 1.33:1 full-screen format. Video particularly shows the film´s age, as much of the interview footage was taken immediately following Lin´s selection as architect for the project. Moreover, the footage was not recorded with particularly high quality equipment – one can imagine that the interviews were initially designed for Evening News consumption, and not necessarily for high quality video presentation two decades down the road. Video on the DVD receives average marks due simply due to its age.
Audio:
Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Surround sound. Audio is presented well, but much of the film´s audio is entirely related to the dialogue of Ms. Lin and the balance of the documentary´s interviewees. Indeed, I cannot remember whether or not there was any soundtrack to speak of – in typical documentary fashion, any musical notation is de-emphasized on the disc. That said, the interview footage is crisp, clear, and nicely remastered for DVD.
Extras:
As is Docurama´s penchant, Extras on the "Maya Lin" DVD are very limited, with the textual Filmmaker Biography being the only Special Feature worth mentioning. Docurama prefers to tell their story completely within the constraints of the documentary itself, and this DVD is no exception to their rule.
