Video:
"The Wallflower" is presented in 1.33:1 full screen and looks wonderful. This is a series with extreme color contrasts. The guys are so bright and colorful, it really can be blinding. Meanwhile, Sunako's lair is black as night. The video quality on this disc is great at displaying both extremes. Dark colors are solid, while the bright colors are vivid.

Audio:
This disc provides a Dolby 5.1 surround English track, and a Dolby 2.0 Japanese language track with English subtitles. I mainly watched this disc with the Japanese language track on. This is not really an action series, however there is a lot of shouting and arguing. The soundtrack contains some excellent choral background music and dark creepy songs. Both audio tracks sound just fine ands can handle the dialog and strong music. I did not notice any glaring issues.

Extras:
Text-free opening and ending animation is included, along with the "on-air" version of the opening credits. This is the opening animation used for episodes 1-13 when the series originally ran on TV in Japan. These credits are very different than the regular version used in the episodes on this disc. The on-air animation is really just a bunch of scenes from the first episode or two edited together. The DVD version/regular opening credits contain much more pretty-boy eye candy! I think this is a great thing.

Film Value:
While "The Wallflower" may have such a crazy style and sense of humor that it scares some people away, I thoroughly enjoyed this set of episodes. This is not a show to be taken seriously. However, this silly sense of humor can only last so long before it gets tiresome. I hope that future episodes will reveal some sort of character development or growth. But for now, watching volume 1 is an enjoyable, amusing way to spend an afternoon.
