Several weeks before she's to be married, a beautiful young woman starts up an affair with a handsome, muscular young carnival roustabout. They make love and carry on, while the audience wonders why any serious filmmaker would bother to make this kind of simpleminded sex fantasy. Then we remember the director's name, Zalman King, he of "Nine ½ Weeks," "Wild Orchid," and "Red Shoe Diaries" fame, and realize that one cannot argue with success. Besides, the film has a few moderately erotic scenes and some apparently unintentional humor, so it's only mostly bad.

Sherilyn Fenn plays the fetching Southern belle, April DeLongpre (wonderful name), and because she spends about as much time out of her clothes as in them, she is undoubtedly worthy of at least a majority of male viewers' attention. The carny hulk she falls for, Perry, played by Richard Tyson, is not too long on brains but a far sight more interesting than the drippy bore April is supposed to marry, a fellow named Chad, played by Martin Hewitt.

So April and Perry carry on for the days leading up to her marriage, and all is well and good until the family find out about the trysts. Then the grandmother gets the sheriff involved and further anticipated conflict develops. Not much more, mind you. We wouldn't want too much plot to interfere with the soft-core high jinks. Finally, the ending, which appears to be tagged on as an afterthought, makes about as much sense as the rest of the film.

Besides the principal players, the cast includes some worthy old hands in oddball parts: Big Daddy Burl Ives is Sheriff Earl Hawkins. Big Nurse Louise Fletcher is Grandma Belle. Kristy McNichol is a feisty and possibly bisexual cowgirl, Patti Jean. And veteran actors Dabbs Greer, Herve Villechaize, and Millie Perkins perform in minor roles. Everyone in this picture is better than the material.
